Premise- Located on the west side of Charleston, South Carolina, the proposed site is a barrier between two economic sites. The connection between the urban fabric and nature has also been lost. Our proposal will re establish that connection as well as the connection between the Medical University of South Carolina and the proposed Horizon development project.
Building Type- Urban Planning
Size/Scale- 20 acres
Program- Mixed use development with Agricultural Museum, retail, and recreational areas.
Description- MUSC has collaborated with the City of Charleston to develop the Horizon District as a vibrant, urban mixed-use community with retail, residential, and dedicated research office space. The land between the MUSC and the Horizon District is currently not used to it’s full potential. Our scheme will bring the nature back to the area and provide a resting ground for citizens and visitors.

Concept
“Connection of Hydrology, Nature, & the Urban Fabric.” Known for flooding the site in between Spring and Cannon street must be taken care of. Our concept will re introduce nature back into the site in a very sustainable way of thinking with new technologies.

Natural Pump Filters Plan
We introduced natural bioswales that will filter the flood waters and provide irrigation to the site and pleasant water ways to walk around. By bringing pedestrian bridges to the site, we are re establishing connection between the MUSC site and the new Horizon district.
